WW2 German Zeiss Jena blc beob.- f12x60 Flak binoculars for the Em4mR40 Rangefinder. blc =3 letter wartime German coding for the manufacturer, Carl Zeiss in the city of Jena; Beob. abbreviation for Beobachter (Observation) F 12X60 für Em4mR40 = Entfernungsmesser mit 4m-Basis (for R40 rangefinder with 4 meter base). Nice original example of this sighting device used atop the German R40 4m stereoscopic rangefinder. The rubber caps (eye-protection) can be folded away upwards or sideways. The eye piece Interpupillary distance is adjustable. It has 3 filters (Farbglaser); bright, medium and dark. This one is complete with A long regenrohre (rainguard/sunshield) that is attached to the front of the binocular. There is a working fold-up headrest. The optical performance of this binocular is, as with almost everything made by Zeiss during the war, excellent. Optics and adjustments are intact and clear and in working order. Includes Rare Original Leather Case which shows some wear but is in very good condition. Bakelite occular cover is missing as is a metal quicksight that was mounted on the top and used to aid in locating a target. The quicksight rail is present. The previous owner fashioned a wood mounting plate for tripod mounting. It is not original to the piece. $20 included in shipping cost for insurance. The extra lens shade inside the case in a couple of the pictures is not included.
