ARCADE 1937 CAST IRON GREAT LAKES EXPOSITION GREYHOUND TOURING BUS Rare and original, 1937 GMC Tractor / Trailer "Great Lakes Exposition" Greyhound Touring Tram / Bus, Cast Iron Toy manufactured by Arcade. This early, cast iron Toy measures approx. 7” long overall by 1 5/8" tall and 1 3/8" wide. The Great Lakes Exposition was held at Cleveland, Ohio on the shore of Lake Erie during the summers of 1936 and 1937. fair commemorated the centennial of Cleveland's incorporation as a city. Conceived as a way to energize a city hit hard by the Great Depression, the exposition drew 4 million visitors in its first season, and 7 million by the end of its second and final season in September 1937. A floating stage in Lake Erie became the setting for "Billy Rose's Aquacade", a water music and dance show produced by Billy Rose. It starred Johnny Weissmuller and Eleanor Holm. The Aquacade later traveled to New York City for the 1939 New York World's Fair. Some exhibits were secured from the 1933 Chicaho World's Fair / Century of Progress. This classic World's Fair Toy features a separate Tractor front in blue paint and an elongated Trailer (in blue paint with white highlights) with open sides of the style that was used at the Fair to transport visitors around the grounds and for sightseeing. The tractor and trailer retain approx. 85%+ of their 100% original blue and white paint. Original lettering on the roof reads ""Greyhound Lines / Great Lakes Exposition 1937". SA 5014 020919 This outstanding, Arcade Cast Iron, Greyhound Bus Lines, GMC Tractor / Trailer Toy is in very good condition. There are no cracks, breaks, chips, repairs or physical damage to the cast iron. The paint is 100% original and the surface has never been restored, repainted, touched up or altered in any way. The Toy retains approx 80%+ of its original surface paint ( The rooftop lettering is very well preserved. The wheels and white, hard rubber tires on the front Tractor and the trailer sections are original and intact with some cracks. Overall the Toy is well preserved, attractive and displays nicely.
