MARX POPEYE THE CHAMP wind up tin litho vintage toy WORKS 1930s copyright King Features Syndicate Inc. 6.5 x 6.5 x 5.25" Ring. Wonderful graphics. Tin base designed like ring including tin litho posts and striped cloth ropes. Side panels have two different images of crowd in line, one is Sappo and Professor Watasnozzle arguing and the other is Wimpy and Olive Oyl waiting in line. Comes with 3.5" tall cello figures of Popeye and Brutus. Ring appears to have original ropes. When toy is wound center circle rotates and when one fighter is knocked back round is over as toy stops and a bell rings. A side lever which pops out at the end of a round, restarts the action when pushed in. Attractive lithograph base includes sign "Big Fight: Popeye The Champ". Wonderful design including mechanism which randomly selects which figure is knocked out. Brutus’ nose is pushed in a bit. There is some wear to the hole in popeye's arm. The Platform top has some surface rust. One corner post is bent over a little where a fold over tab has broken off. Working with great action and wonderful design. Complete with Antique but not original key.
