Heinrich Wimmer, Western Germany Tin friction "Air Transport Service Car Ferry" HWN Air Transport Service Car Ferry Origin: West Germany, c. 1950 A real rarity, this friction tin linthograph Air Transport Service Car Ferry was made by Heinrich Wimmer Nurnber (HWN) in West Germany around 1950. The airplane is incredibly well lithographed in every detail and the box has amazing graphics – full of imagery. The twin-engine, dual boom plane is brightly lithographed with Air Transport and HWN S-72 markings. This rare toy is most likely modeled on the Fairchild C-82 Packet, a US engineered heavy freight aircraft (predecessor to the Hercules) which was nicknamed “The Flying Boxcar”. This toy model model is 13 inches long and has a 13.5 inch wingspan (33 cm x 35 cm). It has a strong friction motor, and when you open the clear plastic nose cone, a small green VW-type is supposed to roll out (car is missing) Amazingly, the toy is in excellent working order. The box is also very good, with wonderful graphics surrounding all four sides and the end flaps. There are scratches/marks on the toy and on the lift-off plastic nose cap and some tape marks and an tiny edge chip on the plastic.. SA 5067 020820
