Original vintage BROWNS MULE TIN CHEWING TOBACCO Embossed Stamp Mold Sign c1920s. Nice Patina. Roughly 3" x 3".
What you are looking at is a rare piece of the Old West. This is a chewing tobacco embossing mold, used on the production line to impress the brand name on each plug of tobacco. The mold was first placed upside down in the square wood frame, tobacco was poured and spread evenly and then another blank tin and wood press was placed on top. Pressed with pressure, sent to the curing room....the tobacco was then sheared into squares, wrapped and boxed for sale.
